Lucille Georg Awards 2025 – Honoring Lifetime Contributions to Medical Mycology
Established in 1982, the Lucille Georg Award is traditionally considered a lifetime achievement honor, recognizing exceptional dedication and impact in the field of medical mycology. At the ISHAM 2025 Congress, we are proud to announce the recipients of this prestigious award:

Dr. Dimitrios P. Kontoyiannis, MD, ScD, PhD (Hon), FIDSA, FAAM, FAAAS, AAP
Dr. Kontoyiannis is the Robert C. Hickey Chair in Clinical Care and Deputy Head of the Division of Internal Medicine. He currently serves as President of the Mycoses Study Group Education and Research Consortium. Internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in medical mycology and the clinical management of invasive fungal infections, Dr. Kontoyiannis has profoundly shaped the field through decades of research and mentorship.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Joseph Heitman is Chair of the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and James B. Duke Professor at Duke University. He holds additional appointments in the Departments of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, and Medicine. As director of the Tri-Institutional Molecular Mycology and Pathogenesis Training Program and co-director of the CIFAR Fungal Kingdom: Threats and Opportunities Program, Dr. Heitman pioneering research explores the genetic and molecular mechanisms of fungal pathogenesis and resistance.
