Iguazú Falls
Iguazú Falls or Iguaçu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná. The city in Argentina where the Iguazu Falls are located is called Puerto Iguazu, and in Brazil it is called Foz de Iguazu. Both cities are very close to each other: only 16km from center to center. The semicircular waterfall at the heart of this site is 82m Total Height and 2700m Total Width and is situated on a basaltic line spanning the border between Argentina and Brazil. Made up of many cascades producing vast sprays of water, it is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world.
Of course, we recommend visiting the Falls during your stay if you have the time – The park operates from 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday and from 8:30am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please note that the departure of the first bus from the Visitor Center starts at 9am from Monday to Friday and at 8:30am on Saturday and Sunday. Entry for International tourists is 100 Brazilian Reals (BRL), which is about €18 or USD$20 (as of January 2024). The falls are located in a subtropical rainforest climate zone, so mosquitoes are present and wearing repellent is highly recommended.

In the link below you have access to the PDF with a list of all the countries and whether visas are required for each one.
QGRVsimplesing04JUN241.pdf (www.gov.br)
Brazil adopts reciprocity, it doesn’t request visas from countries that don’t request visas from Brazilian inhabitants. Visas from most EU countries aren’t required, such as Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, etc. As well as Mercosur countries (Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, etc.). Currently, it’s not required from the USA either. But it is suggested to consult the document online because the rules can change or check with the local embassies.
Useful information
Time zone
In Brazil, Brasília Time is in force, which corresponds to three hours less than Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-3). There is no longer “summertime” in Brazil.
In Argentina, it is also 3 hours less (UTC-3). In Paraguay, it is four hours less (UTC-4). The country observes “summertime”. Therefore, when planning trips to the country, check the local time.
Toll roads
In all three countries, there are tolls on highways. Depending on where you are going or where you will arrive, via land, it is always a good idea to carry a quantity of local currency (from each country). In Puerto Iguazú, don’t be surprised if you are approached, on the road back from the Falls, to pay the tourist tax. The price is very affordable. If you intend to return to Puerto Iguazu another day, keep it and present it so that it will only be charged once.
Exchage
In Brazil, the currency is the real (R$), in Argentina it is the Argentine peso ($) and in Paraguay the official currency is the Guarani (₲). However, it is common for tourist establishments in the trinational region to accept all these currencies and also the US dollar. For example: if you are going shopping in Paraguay, you can pay in reais, Argentine peso or dollars, at the exchange rate used by the establishment you are at.
Don’t worry, there are many exchange offices in the three cities. We just recommend that you always have a local amount of money, wherever you are, as there are specific cases, such as the Falls on the Argentine side, that only accept payment in Argentine pesos (if in cash) or credit card.
Electricity
Brazil: 127 V and 220 V.
Paraguay and Argentina: 220 V.
The socket standards are different in the three countries.
Smoking in closed places
In Brazil and Argentina, there are specific laws prohibiting smoking indoors. Paraguay also has legislation on this. Only in some places is it allowed. If in doubt, check with the staff at the place where you are staying.
